We are an architecture and research collective dedicated to reconnecting people with nature through design at every scale. We imagine better ways of living together by rethinking the relationships between communities, built environments and the natural systems that sustain life.

About
EFFEKT is an architecture and research collective on a mission to reconnect people with nature through design at every scale. We aim to transform complex, real-world challenges into designs that leave a lasting positive impact. By bridging research and design, we align data with lived experience, functionality with beauty, economic priorities with ecological responsibility, and hope with action.
Led by Co-founders Sinus Lynge and Tue Hesselberg Foged, and joined in 2023 by partners Tina Lund Højgaard and Toni Rubio Soler, our design studio brings together over 50 purpose-driven experts: architects, designers, urban planners, landscape architects, and researchers who work holistically across borders, scales, and disciplines.
For over 20 years, we have worked with innovation and cross-sector partnerships to address some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges in the built environment – from a systemic perspective to the human scale. Our solutions are rooted in the communities and environments they serve – and shaped with care, so they can be both felt and measured.
We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but we continue to push boundaries in our pursuit of design solutions that enrich life, celebrate nature and meet society’s needs without compromising the future.

For more than 20 years, we have taken a collaborative, holistic approach to tackling urgent social and environmental challenges in the built environment. Guided by research and empathy, we challenge business-as-usual – systematically uncovering potential and exploring new frontiers in design to create lasting positive impact.
Areas of expertise
We are thinkers and builders working at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, landscape and R&D. Our holistic and interdisciplinary approach to design enables us to create comprehensive, integrated solutions that go beyond the surface.
At EFFEKT, impact is not an afterthought. From our origins to every project we undertake, we are guided by a deep sense of responsibility to create meaningful, measurable contributions to the environment and society.
Architecture
Our work strikes a balance between analytical precision and artistic vision. By systematically uncovering potential and asking broader questions beyond the brief, we empower our clients and collaborators with design solutions that challenge the status quo. We see every project as an opportunity to explore new ways of thinking and building – pushing architectural frontiers while delivering real-world impact.
While data and knowledge provide a vital foundation for our work, true impact happens when knowledge resonates emotionally. By bridging innovation and empathy, we craft design solutions that activate the body, mind, and senses, forging profound connections to nature and community.
Urbanism
We envision cities as thriving urban ecosystems – places that support the health and well-being of communities while existing in synergy with the larger natural environment.
This life-centric approach compels us to explore new, resource-efficient ways of living, building, re-using, producing, and consuming, in search of solutions that don’t just minimize harm, but actively restore ecosystems. Solutions that foster lively, inclusive and resilient neighborhoods, integrating nature at every scale and adapting to diverse needs and lifestyles.
Collaboration and innovation are central to our process. By flipping traditional hierarchies and fostering cross-sector, interdisciplinary partnerships, we innovate, refine and scale solutions that drive meaningful systemic change.
Transformation
We see transformation as an opportunity to honour the past while shaping the future. By respecting the DNA of existing buildings and working within their original structures, we unlock hidden potential – preserving as much as possible while creating new relationships between old and new.
Instead of replacing, we optimize. We assess the resources already embedded in a building, reusing materials and adapting spaces to create unique spatial qualities.
Whether through subtle interventions or bold sculptural additions, we create meaningful contrasts that enhance the depth of time and place. By making the most of what already exists – both inside and out – we add value, reduce carbon impact, and breathe new life into buildings and neighborhoods.
We have a long-standing track record of realizing example projects that challenge a conservative construction industry and demonstrate the power of innovation and radical reuse.
Landscape
Our holistic design approach puts nature in the driver’s seat. With every project, we strive to align human well-being with the natural world, transforming our relationship with nature from one of separation to one of connection and coexistence.
We work with the unique conditions of each site – understanding local ecologies, plant systems, and natural processes to create resilient landscapes that adapt to climate challenges while enhancing biodiversity.
Through in-depth analysis and a deep sensitivity to the existing terrain, we uncover opportunities for transformation that strengthen both the natural and the built environment.
At the same time, we weave nature into everyday urban life, creating unique social spaces that connect, move, and motivate people.
Research
We don’t just create spaces – we create change. R&D is our cornerstone. It is how we manage the growing complexity of our world, and how knowledge, climate science, and data illuminate the path forward for us as a company, for our lighthouse design projects and for the industry.
We collaborate across disciplines and form partnerships with some of the world's most distinguished research institutions such as the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Doughnut Economics Action Lab. Together, we challenge building systems, technologies, processes, supply chains, regulations, and materials with the aim of eventually aligning the built environment with safe and just planetary boundaries.
Bridging research and design makes us uniquely qualified to visualize complex information and insights. By making complex ideas accessible and actionable for everyone, we aim to empower clients, stakeholders, citizens and professionals across disciplines to co-create solutions that extend beyond individual projects and drive systemic change.
