Can climate change and biodiversity loss be tackled together?
Over the past months, EFFEKT collaborated with Eurelectric on a landmark report to investigate how renewable electricity projects can integrate climate action with positive impacts on biodiversity.
Named #PowerPlant, the goal of the research project is to restore nature while ensuring possibilities for a large-scale renewable and clean power deployment, in order to break the degradation cycle and contribute to biodiversity regeneration.
Some of the strategies explored in the report are revegetating desertified land through solar panel shading, reviving landscapes in degraded areas like peatlands and coal mines and allowing sustainable food and energy production, by deploying agri-photovoltaics above crops.
The project launched in June during the 2022 Eurelectric Power Summit.
